Fathers are often less fussy about celebrating Father's Day, but that doesn't mean they don't like to be fussed over. Here are 5 ways you should fuss over your dad on Father's Day and every day.
My heart sings when I watch my sons hanging out and having adventures with my husband.
Having lost my father when I was 6, I am acutely aware of their blessing to have a supportive and open-minded dad who has loved each stage of fatherhood. As my boys enter their 20s, it is heartwarming to see how their father-son connection continues to grow.
They are definitely benefiting from their father's advice and guidance as young men starting to make their way in the world. Not to mention that they have the coolest athletic, adventurous and authentic human being for a dad.
In fact, last year I wrote a tribute to How Fathers Influence Their Children's Confidence and Character. Please check it out as it celebrates not only my son's father but all fathers for the important role they play in their children's lives.
While fathers pretend to not be into the warm fuzzy expressions of love or the need to celebrate on Father's Day. They are actually the softest of hearts that melt when their children demonstrate their appreciation and love for them.
Here are my 5 recommendations for ways you should fuss over your dad on Father's Day and every day.
1. Buy (or Make) Him a Cup of His Favorite Coffee
Whether it's tea, coffee or a beer, treat your father to his favourite beverage and make the time to enjoy it with him. It's a simple heartfelt way to say thank you for all that he does to support you.
2. Treat Him to His Favourite Meal
What is your father's favourite food? Treating your father to a meal means more when it is something that he loves to eat. It doesn't have to be extravagant. What matters is sharing the meal and enjoying each other's company.
3. Play a Game He Enjoys
Does your father have a favourite sport or game that he likes to play in his downtime? Make time to share in your father's hobbies and sports on Father's Day and whenever you can. Parents will always grow old faster than their children and time for activities that connect you will create memories for a lifetime.
4. Teach Him an Activity You Enjoy
Fathers want to be included in their children's world. Make time to share a favourite hobby or activity with him and show him what you are interested in. Maybe it will be his new favourite too. He will definitely enjoy getting to know you better.
5. Go For a Walk and Talk
Life is busy. Time passes too fast. The simple act of making time and spending time with your father may be the best gift of all. Not only on Father's Day but any day. Connecting and sharing in each other's lives is a privilege not to be taken for granted.
Happy Father's Day
I wish I had more time with my father. When I look at his old photos I think he was a cool dude who would have been a cool dad and granddad.
I have very limited early childhood memories of him. The fragments that I have are of fun and laughter from the few adventures that we had together.
If you are fortunate enough to have your father in your life, then find a way to celebrate him not only for Father's Day but every day.
